The Woman He Always Saw

Kristina's Story: A Journey of Strength, Self-Discovery, and Love

Some Stories Stay With You

Every person who walks into my studio brings a story with them. Some are celebrating milestones, others are embracing a new chapter, and some are learning to see themselves in a way they never have before.

Kristina came to IronVeil Boudoir with a special purpose: to create a meaningful 10th-anniversary gift for her husband, Jason.

But behind that gift was a deeply personal journey of overcoming years of body shaming, reclaiming her health, and learning to recognize the strength and beauty that had been there all along.

What unfolded during her session reminded me exactly why I do what I do.

With Kristina's permission, I'm honored to share her story in her own words.

When Your Body Becomes Everyone Else's Business

From grade school through adulthood, I have endured years of bullying and body shaming. Although I was always active in sports and far from being overweight as a teen, my body seemed to be the center of everyone's attention. Friends, coaches, teachers, and even doctors made me feel as though my weight defined me and that my body and lifestyle were the problem.

Diabetes runs heavily in my family, and during my first semester of college, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Yet again, the message was clear: it was my fault. "Just lose weight, eat better, try harder" became a constant refrain.

Meanwhile, the medications I needed to manage my condition seemed to work against me, causing actual weight gain despite my efforts. The cycle of medications, doctors' appointments, and judgment continued.

As the years passed, so did my confidence. I endured years of workplace bullying, and my self-esteem and self-worth slowly crumbled.

Then, in 2012, my first marriage fell apart when I discovered my husband's affair through messages containing things no woman should ever have to read about herself and her body.

I was left questioning everything about life, love, and myself.

The Man Who Saw Her Differently

Then, When I Least Expected It, I Met Jason

He had recently experienced heartbreak of his own, and that evening, we talked, shared stories, and exchanged numbers.

I never could have imagined that the man I met that night would become the person who helped me find myself again.

While I was struggling to put the pieces of my life back together, Jason never asked me to hide the broken ones. He saw them, handled them with care, and loved me through them.

He made me feel safe, valued, and beautiful at a time when I could barely see any of those things in myself.

We married in October 2016 and began building a life together, but one of my biggest battles was still ahead of me: my health.

Jason stood beside me through countless appointments, difficult lab results, tears, and setbacks. When bariatric surgery became an option, he supported me without hesitation.

Reclaiming Her Life

More Than a Number on the Scale

In 2023, I underwent surgery with the hope of reclaiming my health and freeing myself from the three types of insulin and a handful of medications I needed every day.

The journey was physically demanding, emotionally exhausting, and life-changing.

But through every difficult day, Jason was there, encouraging me when I felt defeated and celebrating victories I once thought were impossible.

Today, I am 100 pounds down and off all insulin and diabetes-related medications.

I am incredibly proud of how far I've come, but my transformation has never been just about the number on the scale.

It has been about reclaiming my life, my confidence, and the parts of myself that years of shame had convinced me were lost.

Jason has loved me through every version of myself. He loved me at my lowest, when I couldn't look in the mirror without criticizing the person staring back, and when I couldn't understand what he saw in me.

He has always told me I was beautiful, but learning to believe him has been a much longer journey.

Why Boudoir?

A Gift That Meant More Than Photographs

As our 10th wedding anniversary approached, I wanted to give him something that went beyond a traditional gift.

I wanted him to see the woman he had spent years helping me rediscover, not just my body, but my strength, my healing, my confidence, and the love I was finally learning to show myself.

That is what led me to boudoir photography.

For me, it wasn't simply about taking beautiful pictures. It was about facing the woman I had spent so many years being ashamed of and finally seeing her through a different lens.

It was about celebrating everything I had survived and everything I had become.

Most of all, it was about giving my husband a gift that expressed, in a way words never fully could, just how much his love had changed my life.

The Moment Everything Changed

Then Aleigha Took the First Test Shot

After searching, I came across Aleigha, and I knew this could be something truly special.

From the beginning, she made the entire process exciting, comfortable, and fun.

I went into the experience with an open mind, secretly praying I wouldn't cringe when I saw pictures of myself.

Then Aleigha took the first test shot.

As the image appeared on the screen, I was overcome with emotion.

For the first time in a very long time, I looked at a picture of myself without immediately picking apart everything I didn't like.

Aleigha has an incredible way of making you feel relaxed, beautiful, and completely at ease.

Her encouragement is genuine, and she creates an atmosphere that makes the entire experience feel natural and fun.

We designed my album with all things Jason in mind, and I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful or meaningful final product.

The Anniversary Gift

It Wasn't Just a Photo Album

We celebrated our 10th anniversary in Punta Cana, and that trip will forever hold some of my most cherished memories.

Jason received his gift on our very first night there.

I had worried that he might not fully understand why I had chosen to do this, but when my usually unemotional husband began to tear up, I knew he understood.

In that moment, I knew the gift had meant exactly what I had hoped it would.

It wasn't just a photo album.

It was a reflection of my journey, our love, and everything we had overcome together.

It was a way of showing him the woman he had always seen, even when I couldn't see her myself.

Seeing Herself Through a Different Lens

I cannot thank Aleigha enough, not only for making the entire process comfortable, relaxing, and fun, but for capturing exactly the sentiment I had hoped for and helping me create a memory that my husband and I will cherish forever.

Sometimes, the most beautiful gift you can give someone is a glimpse of what their love has helped you become.

Aleigha helped me give Jason that gift, and in the process, she gave me something, too: a memory of seeing myself in a way I never thought I could.

For that, I will always be grateful.
